Pages 2k session at EGU 2018

The deadline for abstract submissions to EGU is approaching! Indeed, submissions are due on 10th January. I didn’t want to SPAM you much earlier, as in my experience people tend to submit the abstract within the last few days. Which we are approaching and it’s the reason for me to post this now.

This year, I would like to draw your attention towards the session organised by the Pages 2k team. This is a classical session that year after year attracts quite a bit of attention and audience, leading to interesting discussions and new ideas. As in previous occasions, the topic is rather open and general, as the aim of this session is again to be a meeting point for a wide audience interested in all sort of paleoclimate sciences.

The tittle is Studying the climate of the last two millennia, and the abstract reads as:

This session highlights integrative paleoclimate research on the climate of the past 2000 years. We invite presentations that provide insights into data syntheses, quantitative temperature and hydroclimate reconstructions from local to global scales, novel approaches to producing multi-proxy climate field reconstructions, and contributions critically addressing non-climatic influences on proxies used in climate reconstructions, or integration of information from proxies with different time resolutions.

This session also encourages presentations of new external forcing reconstructions or assessment, analysis of transient climate simulations, new approaches that provide further insight from model-data comparison exercises, proxy system modeling, proxy-data assimilation, as well as the attribution of past climate variability to external drivers or internal climate processes.

Therefore, both empirical as well as modelling studies are welcome, especially exercises that blend both approaches. It turns out that this year the convener team has been renovated with young researchers, and I happen to be one of them. Therefore, I can do nothing but to encourage you to submit an abstract to this session.

I hope to see you all in Vienna this year.
