The impact of Vivian storm in Switzerland

Wind storms are an important threat to human activities, and in particular over Switzerland lead to important economical and personal loses on a regular basis. During my time at KUP, I carried out a number of simulations with the aim of gaining insight about this phenomena. I ran various high-resolution simulations with WRF, and in particular I produced a short video that shows the temporal evolution of wind speed in an important wind storm in Switzerland (Vivian, in February 1990). The video is rather short and simple, but it gives a glance on the evolution of the storm:

Reddish colours indicate areas where wind speed begins to be dangerous. The movie is based on the composite of various snapshots taken from a simulation whose setup I describe in full details in this paper.
