The aim of the SH•ES•TRA database is to contribute to the study of the reception of Shakespeare’s work in Spain in the medium of translation.
When searching for a particular translation, please bear in mind the following:
- All the translations are in Spanish (for the moment, we have not included translations into Spain’s other languages)
- The language of the original texts is not necessarily English (French adaptations, especially from the 19th century, have also been included)
- The translations are not necessarily complete (the database also includes translations of fragments of Shakespeare’s work)
- The translations are published (not included in the database are manuscripts, work in print or play-texts for performance)
- The place of publication is Spain (we have not included Spanish translations published elsewhere)
- The dates of publication refer to first editions (dates of subsequent editions or reprints are not included)
- The period covered is 1772 to 2005. (We will shortly be updating the database to 2010)
