Presentation (PhD in Education)

The Doctoral Programme in Education of the University of Murcia arises from the dynamic research groups in the Faculty of Education and their commitment to meet the needs and demands in the context of our professional environment. It is also a result of our firm belief in a space where training and research come together or, in other words, a shared space for knowledge acquisition and creation.

The programme is aimed at university graduates with different profiles. On the one hand, graduates and professionals whose work is linked to formal education: teachers of all educational levels, inspectors, management teams, guidance and counselling services, designers of teaching materials ... In other words, the Doctoral Programme in Education would be open to anyone working in formal education in its broadest sense.

In addition, education and training are increasingly expanding their scope of action to museums, nature classrooms, sport academies, hospital classrooms, prison programmes, publicity campaigns ... and even training in companies. Thus, as the potential demand for the programme seeks to go beyond conventional training needs, we would also like to cater for other professional sectors that require research as a tool to optimise the tasks they perform.

This large scope of action has led us to establish three major fields of research:

  • Policies, practices, and assessment in educational and socio-educational contexts
  • Quality and intervention in the teaching-learning process: from disability to high ability
  • Research for education improvement in specific teaching methods

The Doctoral Programme in Education clearly considers the European context and requirements in order to ensure that these studies are comparable to other similar programmes developed in our environment.

The research team as well as the eleven research groups of the Faculty of Education have been key to supporting this programme. In fact, presently, over 50 projects are being developed, over 20 of which are funded through competitive public calls. As a result, the scientific production (articles in high impact journals, contributions to national and international conferences, academic recognition of doctoral theses ...) can be considered relevant in the field of Education within the scope of Spanish universities.

Lastly, we would like to highlight that the Doctoral Programme in Education arises seeking to combine attention to the context with a clear international vocation, to make training and research compatible, to make specialisation and a holistic vision of phenomena feasible, to combine personal development and collaborative work ... It is born, in short, with the hope and commitment to offer support to those who wish to move forward in research on education.
