This Doctoral Programme focuses on the research area of Political Sciences and Public Administration, providing the student with a scenario of building critical thinking and the discussion of key social and political issues and the formulation of research and identification aspects of knowledge gaps in the Political Sciences area.
The transformations of the political system in Spain and Latin America since the beginning of the transition to democracy generate a growing need for research in the areas of Government, Administration and Public Policies, which are the main lines of action of this programme. The further analysis of social welfare policies, the decentralisation of the administrative system, the regional integration and public policies in supranational frameworks and the processes of modernisation of the Administration require the training of qualified researchers and professionals. The doctoral programme focuses on political institutions, public management and the analysis of public policies, political and institutional communication processes, and the transformations of the political system.
The Doctoral Programme in Political Sciences and Public Administration presents a high social interest, represented by the growing demand for applied social and political research and academic programmes for certain professional activities. The programme, indeed, may include a percentage of part-time places for students who work as either a member of any Public Administration or other social and political organisations. Likewise, the Programme is directly related to the National R&D&I Plan for promoting quality research, evidenced in this case by contributing to the solution of significant social and political problems currently faced by Spanish society. After that, the results will be published in forums and high impact editions.
