Presentation of Greek for Science

Scientific Greek is a complementary didactic material for teaching Greek for specific purposes, and has been funded by the European Commission through the Leonardo da Vinci programme (EL/2004/B/F/LA-148110).

The materials have been designed and coordinated by the Greek school Alexander the Great, which is part of the British-Hellenic College in Athens (Greece). They have been elaborated by an international team of modern Greek teachers from the University of Murcia (Spain), the University of Lecce (Italy), and the ELBEA company (Bulgaria), all of them partner institutions within the project. The technical work of the project has been carried out by the company ELEA Computer Systems, based in Athens and specialised in multimedia applications for teaching.

If you wish to have further information about the project, please visit its webpage:
www.elea.gr/scientificgreek.html

Scientific Greek has been designed for intermediate users (levels B1-B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages). It aims to cover the needs of teaching Greek in communicative situations related to the world of science.

The method is structured into 24 units containing texts and dialogues related to the scientific usage (physics, chemistry, mathematics, geology, computer science, etc.), reading comprehension and vocabulary activities, grammar theory and exercises. It also includes a key to the activities and a Spanish-Italian-Bulgarian glossary.

These materials have been published both in printed form and as a multimedia CD. The book (PDF format) and its accompanying sound files can be downloaded free from the aforementioned webpage. If you are interested in receiving the multimedia CD, or wish to make any suggestion or comment, please contact us.
