Final goal

The main goal of this project is to propose and develop an intelligent system to support an Antimicrobial Stewardship Program (ASP).

Context

This project, framed within a multidisciplinary context (physicians, microbiologist, pharmaceutics, epidemiologist and manager), proposes a system to make it easy the essential issues of the ASP team, by providing intelligent support to the major processes of the antibiotics management.

Data Integration

One key process will be the clinical data integration. The outcome of this process will be the master pillar of the decision support system, as well as to allow the multidimensional analysis of the criteria to guide the prescription and the verification of treatments.

Artificial Intelligence

The system will use intelligent techniques to explain the recommendations provided and the alarms generated. In order to improve the decision support system, we will propose techniques of temporal pattern discovery to help physicians to adjust treatments (doses, tract, cycle, length) in an epidemiological context.

Visualization

Due to the large amount of data to be analysed, we will pay special attention to design new visualization techniques to summarise the state of the patient, clinical protocols and patterns discovered.

Pilot

A pilot experience in a hospital will be done in order to evaluate the system. This pilot will give the ASP team the opportunity to identify specialists training needs, to detect deviations from the guidelines, to monitor antibiotic habits of use, as well as to effectively spread the information between the specialists.
