VENUE-TOURISM IN MURCIA |
1st INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON CORPUS LINGUISTICS CILC-09 7-9 May, 2009, University of Murcia |
CILC-09 will be held in the premises of Campus La Merced, located in the heart of the thriving town centre of Murcia. The Campus borders the old quarter, near the Cathedral, and features one of the main historical buildings in the town: the old cloister, a former religious building. The history of the University of Murcia can trace its roots back to the 13th century and the reign of King Alfonso X the Wise, and it was last re-founded in 1914. With around 30,000 students, more than 2,000 teaching staff, around 80 degree programmes (at undergraduate and postgraduate level), and 7 research institutes, the University of Murcia ranks among the biggest ones in Spain. The welcoming, open-door character of the university is entwined with the cosmopolitan nature of the town. Every year, hundreds of international students come to the University of Murcia. Murcia is the capital city of the namesake Region. It was established in AD 825 and stands out for its collection of baroque sculptures and buildings. The city lies 1 hour south of Alicante and is located 40 kms from the coast. Given its proximity to the Mediterranean Sea, Murcia enjoys a Mediterranean climate, of semi-arid type, with average temperatures ranging from 15º to 19ºC. Murcia provides a good example of Spanish tapas culture and has a wide range of culinary specialities to offer. Click on the map to know more about the Region of Murcia:
